It was a rough start to the year–LA was on fire and our democracy started burning too. But if there’s one thing the Social Good Solutions team knows how to do, it’s stay focused on the mission at hand. No matter what’s going on around us, we’re going to uplift each other, create safe spaces to build community, celebrate our collective brilliance, and always, always, always bask in laughter and joy. Black History Month 2025 was no exception.
As soon as our girl graced the stage to accept her award, we knew this Black History Month would be a great one—no, not Beyonce. Our very own London Jones was awarded the “Legacy Builder” Award by Inglewood Wrapping Arms Around the Community (I.W.A.T.C.) on February 1st. London has been with Social Good Solutions since February 2021 and as the Senior Leader, Network Engagement and Community Building, she has cultivated such meaningful relationships with Black Equity Collective member organizations and has been a champion for their success and their longevity. We’re beyond proud that one of our BLOs in Southern California recognized London “as a distinguished leader and inspiration in our community.” Congratulations London!

The following week, our team held our annual Professional Development Team Retreat on February 13th and 14th at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica. You know we don’t miss an opportunity to retreat! Each retreat we take throughout the year serves a different purpose. The SGS PD Retreat offers the team space to reconnect with the firm’s core beliefs, set our focus for the year and deepen our leadership skills. It’s no accident we do this over Valentine’s Day. There’s so much love in the room–for each other and for our community. We reconnect to our ancestral wisdom, which absolutely has to include some good food and good laughs, too! After all, the ancestors are watching! We embrace it all as we take on the task of operationalizing racial equity in the philanthropic and social justice fields.

This was also the first time we all came together since our Founder and Chief Architect, Kaci Patterson, returned from a well-deserved sabbatical. February 13th also marked Kaci’s public reemergence. She was the 2025 Keynote Speaker for the Carl & Roberta Deutsch Foundation HALO Award. The HALO Award is a capacity building program designed to strengthen and sustain nonprofit organizations by supporting volunteer programs and recognizing and rewarding volunteers doing exemplary work in their communities. In Kaci’s speech, she spoke on her own journey as a volunteer while an undergraduate student at Pepperdine University and how working with the community in her youth fed her soul and allowed her to pivot into the nonprofit and philanthropic work she does now. The 2025 awardees didn’t allow a little rain to stop them from celebrating a momentous occasion in their career and we’re honored that Social Good Solutions was a part of that moment!

Finally, we ended February with our shoe game on display at the first annual sneaker ball gala and fundraiser for the R.O.O.T Center in San Bernardino, a joint venture between New Life Christian Center/Congregations Organized for Prophetic Engagement (COPE). Kaci and Felicia brought their high tops and their dance moves to the IE!
